Baroness Caroline Cox is an active member of the House of Lords. She campaigns against modern slavery and is Chief Executive of HART (Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust). HART was founded in 2003 by Baroness Cox, Chief Executive Officer, out of the desire to help the "forgotten peoples" around the world. HART works with partners in Europe, Africa and Asia to better the lives of hundreds of persecuted individuals. She is also a Patron of the Medical Aid for Poland Fund, a Trustee of MERLIN (Medical Emergency Relief International), a member of Physicians for Human Rights (UK) a non-executive director of the Andrei Sakharov Foundation, and an International Representative for Elam Ministries. She is also a member of the Standing Conference on Women's Organisations, and a vice-president of the Girl Guides Association.
Martin Geake is an agricultural economist by training and has spent much of his working life living in Africa where he managed a variety of development organisations. He met his wife Amanda in Malawi and they then had postings to Swaziland, Uganda and Kenya. They were actively involved in local church life in all their travels. They returned to Bath with their three children, James, Lucy and Sarah in 1998 and joined Holy Trinity church. Martin is Chief Executive of the Christian charity Send a Cow, which works with smallholder farmers in Africa
Stephen Rand worked for Tearfund for 25 years, and is now co chair of the Board of Jubilee Debt Campaign, having been involved in the campaign to cancel the unpayable debt of the world’s poorest nations for over ten years. He was part of the Coordination Team for Make Poverty History.
Stephen is the author of Guinea Pig for Lunch, the stories of his travel experiences with Tearfund, and When the time was right, a book a readings for the advent season published in 2006.
He also works for Christian charity Open Doors as Editor and Campaign Consultant, and is part of the apostolic team of Mainstream, a Baptist Word and Spirit network.
Grace Turner works full time for Firelighters as Co-Director. Her job includes mentoring the various Firelighters at home or abroad, as well as other people in Christian Ministry in this country. Grace teaches at Churches and Conferences in the UK, having spoken at both Spring Harvest and New Wine, as well as preaching and training abroad. These teaching trips have taken her to Uganda, Russia, Romania, Albania, Germany, the Philippines and S.E.Asia. She is the author of the TIDE Course ("Training In Discipleship & Evangelism") which is now used in 25 countries.
Nick Turner is Co-Director of Firelighters with Grace his wife. Nick is a solicitor in Bath, and works one day a week for Firelighters. He also leads Worship at his home church and whenever the ministry takes them to other churches.
Nick and Grace worked for 20 years with students, teaching them the principles of radical discipleship, and as a result many of them went out in short or long-term mission. Recognising the need for many of these folk to be better pastored and supported, Firelighters was born.
Sue Tidy worked for many years in the landscaping industry, when she felt the Lord calling her to do something different.
She had trained as a counsellor and had a heart for broken people, so in some ways it was no surprise when she saw the Lord miraculously open the way for her to join the team at a residential rehabilitation unit where she works with people with addictions and many abuse issues.
Sue has also accompanied Grace to Romania, and was involved in helping to set up Project Doreen.
Sue is speaking at meetings concerning Firelighters, and is hoping to represent the mission at more functions as time allows.
Anna Wynn studied English at York University before working as a Book Editor in London. She became a Christian in her twenties and went on to help on more Alpha courses than she can remember. Anna has been involved in prayer ministry for more than 15 years and is Associate Minister at Holy Trinity Combe Down, Bath and currently responsible for Prayer Ministry, Cell groups and Pastorates. She is passionate about seeing people released and restored by the power of the Holy Spirit. Anna and her husband James have two daughters and live near Bath.
